Title

Scrapes & Minor Burns

What type of bandage is best for minor burns and scrapes?

Talk to your healthcare provider regarding the type of bandage to use to cover and protect your particular burn or scrape.

Nonstick pads and rolled gauze keep your bandage in place, and your wound clean, dry and protected. And gauze pads are perfect for cleaning wounds, not just for protecting them.

Also, it is critical to keep burns moist. Apply ointment generously over the burn and loosely apply the bandage.

Call your healthcare provider for a serious burn, or a burn that is larger than 2 inches wide.

For minor burns

  • Cool the burn under cold running water for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Cover the burned area loosely with a wound dressing.
  • Take a pain reliever, such as acetaminophen.1
